THE global music melting pot that is the BIG DAY OUT has announced the second round of acts for set to perform during next year's performance.

musical circus. Individually they represent everything from old rock to nu-metal, hip-hop to ambient, rap to electronic and even gospel.

The man touted as the best DJ in the world, CARL COX, will pump out the jams when Big Day Out returns to SYDNEY SHOWGROUNDS on Wednesday, January 26.

He joins an eclectic array of international names on the bill, including explosive nu-metal band SLIPKNOT, the aptly named JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION, US hip-hop collective ATMOSPHERE, Swedish rockers THE HIVES, electro trio LE TIGRE, hardcore outfit HATEBREED, electronic wizard KID 606 and 24-piece ``symphonic pop'' group THE POLYPHONIC SPREE. Nine acts from Australia and New Zealand have also been announced including REGURGITATOR, SPIDERBAIT, DECODER RING, DJ BEXTA, THE D4, SCRIBE, DECEPTIKONZ, WOLFMOTHER and HILLTOP HOODS have also been announced.

Tickets are expected to be sold out by the end of the month.

Other bands on the bill include BEASTIE BOYS, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, CHEMICAL BROTHERS, THE MUSIC, THE STREETS, THE DONNAS, FREESTYLERS, POWDERFINGER, GRINSPOON and many more.

Another round of acts will be announced in around a month's time.
