Rudd On A Roll

Who: Xavier Rudd
Where: Civic Theatre
When: Tuesday November 23, 2004

XAVIER RUDD originates from the outskirts of Victoria but Canada has almost become a second home for the popular roots artist.

Since the release of his breakthrough album, Solace, Rudd, who simultaneously plays guitar, didgeridoo and stomp box, has made three trips overseas this year to accommodate his ever- growing popularity.

His first trip was in April and he has since returned twice to play some of the biggest festivals in the US and Canada. He gave a memorable performance during the anti-war POWER TO THE PEACEFUL FESTIVAL which saw Rudd share the bill with MICHAEL FRANTI and the JOHN BUTLER TRIO. Rudd said playing before the 60,000-strong crowd at GOLDEN GATE PARK in San Francisco provided a memorable start to his North American trip.

It was also a chance to team again with Franti, who met Rudd at this year's BYRON BAY BLUES AND ROOTS MUSIC FESTIVAL.

Frani was so impressed that he invited Rudd to play didgeridoo with him on stage.

After a couple of weeks rest Rudd returned to the road last week to embark on his final Australian tour of the year, which will see him perform at the CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE on Tuesday night.

``I've got lot of new stuff in my head. I'm gonna record at some point this year and hope to have something out by the end of next year,'' Rudd said.
