AUSTRALIAN ice skater MATTHEW BUCK was in Newcastle recently to promote DISNEY ON ICE presents Beauty and The Beast which will arrive in Newcastle in July.

Buck appeared at NEWCASTLE REGION LIBRARY earlier this month where he presented a reading of the classic Disney tale Beauty and The Beast to school students.

Melbourne-born Buck will join a 41-strong cast for the show at NEWCASTLE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE from July 7 to 11.

Buck began his career working for a telecommunications company before joining Disney On Ice in 1996.

A keen skater from the age of seven, Buck has toured all over the world in a variety of productions since joining Disney On Ice.

``Travelling is definitely the best thing about performing in Disney On Ice,'' Buck said.

``I've had the chance to travel all over the world and meet people from all corners of the globe.

``The current production I star in features skaters from 11 different countries, including Russia, Australia and America.'' Buck will star in an elaborate production of Beauty and The Beast featuring colourful sets, lavish costumes, soaring musical numbers, and champion skaters.

Set in a French village, the classic tale features the beautiful Belle who longs for adventure and romance.

She finds her own adventure when she becomes a prisoner in the majestic castle of a hideous beast after setting out in search of her lost father.

Sing along with characters LUMIERE, COGSWORTH, MRS POTTS and CHIP to favourite songs such as Be Our Guest, Belle and the ACADEMY AWARD winning title song.

The show will also feature appearances from Disney's most famous star, MICKEY MOUSE, along with MINNIE MOUSE, DONALD DUCK, DAISY, GOOFY and others. Tickets are on sale from TICKETEK on 4921 2121 or ticketek.com.au
