No Stopping Spiderbait

Who: Spiderbait
Where: University - Bar on the Hill
When: Thursday September 9, 2004

IT seems there is no stopping SPIDERBAIT. On the back of a run of sell-out dates in Western Australia and an extensive tour with the HOODOO GURUS, Spiderbait is set to pack up the tour bus yet again on the ALRIGHT TONIGHT TOUR. The tour is the band's first headline run since the release of its sixth studio album Tonight Alright. Recognised as one of the country's best-selling trios, Spiderbait wrote itself into Australian music folklore with its major debut album The Unfinished Spanish Galleon Of Finley Lake. The album reached the national Top 10 and the follow-up classic Ivy and the Big Apples scored an ARIA award for Best Alternative Album.

With the release of Grand Slam in 1999 and The Flight Of Wally Funk in 2001, Spiderbait reinforced its knack for producing golden pop.

Spiderbait made a big return this year with the platinum-selling single Black Betty which spent 16 weeks, and counting, in the Top Five of the ARIA National Singles Chart.

It held the top position for three weeks and became the first Australian rock single to take out the number one spot since January 2000.

The album's second single, F**ken Awesome , is out now.

Spiderbait will perform at the sold-out SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS festival in Byron Bay this month but if you missed out on tickets, check out the Alright Tonight Tour which starts in Melbourne on August 27.

Encompassing nine dates, the tour will arrive at the BAR ON THE HILL at the UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE on Thursday, September 9.

Opening for the tour will be New Zealand's GOODSHIRT, who will return to Australia for their first visit since the BIG DAY OUT to play songs from their forthcoming album Fiji Baby , and Melbourne band GROUND COMPONENTS. Tickets will be available from the Contact Office on 4968 th3717 and cost $12 plus booking fee for students or $20 on the night.
