Show Brings Queen Magic Back to Life

Who: Queen It's A Kind Of Magic
Where: Civic Theatre
When: Saturday July 31, 2004

AFTER embarking on a sold-out tour of Australia last year, QUEEN - IT'S A KIND OF MAGIC has returned for another round of shows.

Organisers said the next run of dates would include more special effects, more theatrics and more of the songs that made Queen one of the greatest bands of all time.

Arriving direct from the UK, Queen It's A Kind of Magic is based on the 1986 Queen World Tour and delivers the energy, costumes and showmanship of FREDDIE MERCURY and the other members of Queen.

Queen It's A Kind of Magic was established in 1998 and started out playing to punters at small pubs in Manchester.

It has since toured Britain, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and the US, making it one of the world's most successful Queen tribute shows.

The charismatic nature of Mercury is brought to life by CRAIG PESCO, who delivers the ultimate portrayal of the enigmatic star.

``In the last couple of years it has really taken off,'' Pesco said.

``If someone had told me 10 years ago that it would have got to this point, I wouldn't have believed it.'' Queen It's A Kind of Magic revisits 30 Queen tracks including We Will Rock You, Bohemian Rhapsody, Fat Bottom Girls, We Are the Champions and more obscure tunes.

Pesco said more than a decade of hard work had allowed the band to become the success it is today.

``We've watched hundreds of hours of video of the band and because I have been a huge fan of Queen for years I can access that and blend it all in together,'' Pesco said.

``This band is a result of 10 years building up to that point and we have been doing it for so long that it has almost become second nature to us.

``It's now at a stage where because the band is touring so much, we've actually sat down with vocal coaches and watched the facial muscles of Freddie and how he reaches certain notes.

Queen It's A Kind of Magic returns to Newcastle's CIVIC THEATRE on Saturday, July 31.
