WHEN it comes to creating music Israel outfit SHEVA is a real melting pot.

Now on its second tour of Australia, the seven-piece outfit performed at the WOODFORD FOLK FESTIVAL last week.

and has set out on an extensive tour of the country.

Newcastle is included on the tour the band will play at the GALLIPOLI LEGION CLUB on Saturday night, presenting a colourful blend of world music.

Formed in 1996, Sheva's members met while travelling across the globe and have since gone on to achieve international recognition as one of the best world music acts.

``We started as travellers, travelling throughout India and Africa and bringing d ferent instruments from around the world and then sitting around the fire playing them together,'' LIOR SHULMAN said.

``We put our attention into peace, blending new sounds together and that was the beginning.

'' Taking musical i luence from a number of d ferent continents, Sheva aims to promote peace, harmony and healing for all cultures through its music.

Their powerful songs and chants source lyrics from biblical texts and innovative prayers for peace and kinship.

Renowned for its energetic live show, Sheva performs on instruments derived from Middle Eastern, Asian, African and European cultures.

``We love the new beats, the modern beats and we also have the ancient scales and instruments, so together it is very colourful and unique in today's music world.

'' Sheva has four albums to its credit and has toured throughout its homeland as well as across the US, Europe and Australia.

Tickets are $22 and available from the club.

Doors open at 7.30pm and the show starts at 8.30pm.
