Laugh With the Lord of the Kebabs

FAT PIZZA star TAHIR BILGIC, better known as HABIB on the hit SBS-TV comedy, will provide plenty of laughs when he headlines the A-LIST COMEDY CLUB at SYDNEY JUNCTION HOTEL tomorrow night. The Turkish-born comedian is touring the country with his successful Lord Of The Kebabs: The Fellowship Of The Hommos tour which attracted sell-out crowds at Sydney's ENMORE THEATRE earlier this month. Before taking over from SLEEK THE ELITE on Fat Pizza , Bilgic made a name for himself on the Australian comedy circuit after winning the TRIPLE J COMEDY CONTEST in 1995. He became a regular guest on programs such as The Footy Show, Recovery and, more recently, the SBS series Aussie Jokers. Bilgic, who labels himself as the only Turkish comedian in Australia, said he hopes he will encourage others from the Turkish community to have a go at comedy. ``Since I've done these stage shows a lot of the Turkish community came out and saw those plays,'' Bilgic said. ``That's encouraged some people to give it a go, which I'm pretty happy about. ``There's no written law that says you must be a kebab shop owner when you grow up or drive cabs or own a fruit shop.''
