Marones Provide Colour in Tribute

Who: The Marones
Where: Newcastle Leagues Club
When: Friday February 20, 2004

NEWCASTLE'S very own tribute to legendary New York rockers THE RAMONES will perform during a triple bill at the newly resurrected venue upstairs at NEWCASTLE LEAGUES CLUB on Friday night.

Dubbed BACK TO THE BANDROOM , The Marones will play alongside SNELVIS AND THE RANCHEROS and BITCHCRAFT .

The occasion will also mark Rancheros bass player TOMMY MARONE'S who also plays in The Marones final gig with the group before he sets his sights on his new psychedelic 1960s rock group THE TRIPS .

Describing themselves as ``Australia's chubbiest Ramones tribute band'' The Marones have been entertaining audiences for several years with their powerful, high- energy performances.

From the classics like Beat on the Brat and Blitzkrieg Bop to later hits like I Don't Wanna Grow Up and Pet Sematary, The Marones provide an authentic and light-hearted tribute to the original garage rock band.

With jeans, joggers, leather jackets and legs spread wide and a range of wacky wigs The Marones deliver their sets with military precision and few pauses.

All the passion, drama, chaos and romance that made The Ramones an enduring presence in modern music is brought back to life in each well- constructed set, recently seen in Brisbane at the 2003 RAMONE-A-THON. The band also shares similar namesakes with the originals, featuring Tommy Marone on bass and vocals, HARRY MARONE on lead vocals, DONNY MARONE on drums and vocals and ``SIDESHOW'' HUMPY MARONE on guitar.

The doors will open at 8.30pm.

Entry is $5.
