NEWCASTLE'S finest young performers came together during the area final of the MATS - MO AWARDS JUNIOR TALENT SEARCH .

A crowd of 350 turned out to watch as young finalists performed at SOUTHS LEAGUES CLUB on March 28 in a bid to win a place in the semi-final at MINGARA RECREATION CLUB on May 2.

Organiser JOHN CARRINGTON BROWNRIGG said the Newcastle entrants were of a high standard.

``The talent from Newcastle is second to none, the winners were immaculate,'' Carrington Brownrigg said.

``The crowd went wild with support and enthusiasm for the performers.'' Competition was open to performers in under 13 and under 18 categories in dance, vocal and variety.

Semi-final winners will compete in the grand final at REVESBY WORKERS CLUB on May 23.

The MATS JUNIOR PERFORMER OF THE YEAR will receive a talent development package worth $10,000.

Souths Leagues Club will host the quest again when it returns next February and March.

Winners of the MATS Newcastle leg are: * Under 13 Dance: Ebony Terenzini, Ashlea Mansfield and Lauren Smith, and Breanna Frost.

* Under 13 Vocal: Miranda Hayman, Willow Walsh, and Kellie Gnauck.

* Under 18 Dance: Breakaway Dancers.

* Under 18 Vocal:Julianne Hancock, Kirsty Akers, Liam Bradbery, and Sharnee Fenwick * Variety : Joel Howlett (pictured), Jeremy Cooper and Breanna Frost.
