THE second annual 1233 ABC NEWCASTLE MUSIC AWARDS will culminate during a spectacular ceremony at CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE on October 28.

Tickets went on sale on September 1 and the public is invited to be part of the Newcastle music industry's night of night.

As well as the presentation of awards, the ceremony will feature performances from some of the hundreds of artists who submitted entries for this year's event.

They will include AMY VEE, ON, COTTON SIDEWALK, SUPERSONIC, BITE MY CHILLI, MIKE MCCARTHY, RUSSELL THORNTON, ANOUSHA VICTOIRE, BROOKE LEAL and 2003 Act of The Year award winner EMPRESS .

1233 ABC Newcastle manager MIKE MCCLUSKEY said the event would showcase the region's talent and its musical diversity.

``The success of the Music Awards has brought about many positive outcomes for the region's music industry,'' Mr McCluskey said.

``It has encouraged local musicians to record their original work, with many Newcastle recording studios booked out before entries closed.

Artists have also gained work and great exposure for their talent.

``The big event will not only be a great concert but will also offer the community an opportunity to come along and participate in a celebration of this amazing local musical talent.

'' The top finalists and winners from each category will be announced on the night including awards for Best Young Talent, Best Vocals, Best Song, Listener's Choice and the ABC Music Best Artist.

In 2003, the event has attracted more than 460 entries.

The awards will take place during NEWCASTLE MUSIC WEEK from October 27 to November 2.
