Sung in English, a Carmen a follows the passion and heartbreak of Don Jose as he pursues his love for the fiery gypsy Carmen.

On the journey from score to stage Insight is given into the story and music while witnessing the development of character, set and costume.

Simply Opera's a Carmen is directed by JOHN WREGG and Carmen is played by GAYE MACFARLANE .

Wregg is a freelance opera director who has been a resident director with OPERA AUSTRALIA for 15 years as well as running his own opera company specialising in chamber works.

He has written libretti and lyrics for several operas, directed festivals and run a tertiary Performing Arts School.

MacFarlane is an opera singer whose work has been extreme in its diversity.

She has performed everything from grand opera to rock'n'roll.

While completing a Diploma of Operatic Arts at the SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC , she was appearing regularly on television.

MacFarlane sang principal roles in most of the companies in Australia and before heading to Europe had branched into musicals.
