SUPERSONIC , winners of the soft rock category at this year's 1233 ABC MUSIC AWARDS , will headline a triple bill of original music at the CROWN & ANCHOR next weekend.

The gig follows its win at the 1233 ABC Newcastle Music Awards at CIVIC THEATRE on October 28 where it walked away with the award for its track Out of Sight (Out of Mind).

Although Supersonic was named the group of the year at last year's event, the band concedes that it was surprised by the win this year.

``After winning group of the year last year, we didn't expect to come up with anything this time around,'' guitarist and vocalist MARK WELLS said.

``So this award is really appreciated.

The ABC has been really good to us and the TRIPLE J airplay that came from last year's win has been great for us in terms of exposure nationally.

``That'll really help when our new album comes out next year.

'' The win follows adds to an ever- growing number of accolades for the band.

In recent years, Supersonic has won a number of local and national competitions including the prestigious ROCKIT 2000 song competition and the HARD ROCK CAF aac FUTURE ROCK 2002 national band comp.

Out of Sight (Out of Mind) is taken from Supersonic's latest EP Waking Hour which was recorded at SONY MUSIC STUDIOS in Sydney with producer PAUL BEGAUD .

Supersonic will perform at the Crown & Anchor on November 29 with VINYL and CIRCLEWORK .

You can also catch the four-piece at THE BREWERY on Saturday night.

Entry is free.
