LOCAL soloist JIM OVEREND started playing guitar at an early age in the 1960s, i luenced by bands such as THE BEATLES, THE ROLLING STONES and THE BYRDS.

He was particularly interested in soloists such as CAT STEVENS, DON MCLEAN, PAUL SIMON and NEIL YOUNG .

He formed his first band in high school called THE SACRED GROVE and played at numerous venues in and around Newcastle, headlining and supporting other local talent.

He formed the band KATCH in 1975 along with BOB HANLEY, CLAUDE HATTON and TERRY LANTRY.

The band secured residencies at many venues and supported local, national and international bands such as AIR SUPPLY, LITTLE RIVER BAND and SUPERCHARGE.

It was during this period that the band released two singles including Another Night, which climbed to the No.

th5 position on the Newcastle charts.

Following the demise of the band, Overend pursued a solo career which allowed him more freedom.

In 1992 he won the NEWCASTLE STAR/ COMMONWEALTH BANK Soloist of the Year award.

and extended his talents overseas by performing at the RED GARTER CLUB in Italy.

With a repertoire of over 400 songs by artists such as REM, ERIC CLAPTON, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, BEACH BOYS, THE EAGLES, BRYAN ADAMS and THE DOORS, Overend can handle most audience requests.
