DANCE music duo ROGUE TRADERS have a drunken dare to thank for the inspiration behind its ARIA award-winning single One of My Kind .

The hit, which was named Best Dance Release at the 2003 ARIAs, features the vocals of MICHAEL HUTCHENCE from INXS 's classic Need You Tonight .

``We had always wanted to remix Need You Tonight and many years ago we were a little bit drunk in the studio when we decided to use it,'' JAMES ASH said.

``I told Steve [Davis] to pick out a record and said that whatever he pulled out we would remix and make into a hit.

``He pulled out Need You Tonight and we knew it would work.

'' The pair's original attempt to remix the song was unsuccessful and it was not until they were searching for a vocal to add to an instrumental track that they decided to give it another try.

One of My Kind not only won the pair an ARIA, but it also became one of the biggest club hits of 2003.

The song is featured on Rogue Traders' debut album We Know It's Up To You.

Although it is the pair's first album release, they have been producing music together since 1989.

Both born in the UK and now based in Melbourne, the pair worked under the moniker UNION STATE before adopting the name Rogue Traders.

Ash said the pair are working on new material which will result in a new album in mid-2004.

Rogue Traders will make their Newcastle debut at the KING STREET HOTEL on Saturday from 10pm with DJs MATT GILL, CHRISTIAN PURE and BRETT OK .

Entry is $12.
