GUITAR virtuoso TOMMY EMMANUEL returns to Australian shores for a national tour which will bring him to Newcastle's WESTS LEAGUES CLUB on Thursday, February 5.

The tour will begin in Tamworth at the COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL and travel through every state before moving on to New Zealand.

Emmanuel has just finished recording a new album, Endless Road, which will be available on the tour.

Emmanuel is almost a household name in his native homeland of Australia, where his music and l e are becoming legendary.

Through endless tours he has earned a success arguably unequalled by any instrumental artist in Australia.

As a songwriter his compositions have been recorded by OLIVIA NEWTON- JOHN, AL JARREAU and SHEENA EASTON.

With four platinum and three gold albums and a host of awards, he is setting the standard for others to emulate.

His career has spanned four decades, although as recently as 2001 his first solo acoustic album, titled Only , was released, with a mission to expand his audience and take his music to the rest of the world.

As a child prodigy during the 1960s Emmanuel and his brother Phil formed their own bands including THE EMMANUEL QUARTET, THE MIDGET SAFARIES SAFARIES correct and THE TRAILBLAZERS .

Emmanuel began his session career during the 1970s, which included notable appearances on AIR SUPPLY'S hit singles Lost in Love, All Out of Love, Every Woman in the World and Now and Forever.

In 1999 Emmanuel was honoured in Nashville by his mentor, CHET ATKINS, receiving the CERT IED GUITAR PLAYER AWARD for his contribution to finger-style guitar.

His versatility has taken him from international jazz festivals to special events at the SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE and the GRAND OLE OPRY in Nashville.

He has extended his tours to some of the most remote areas of Peru and Africa.

Emmanuel has toured and worked with SIR GEORGE MARTIN, STEVIE WONDER, ERIC CLAPTON, MICHAEL BOLTON, OLIVIA NEWTON- JOHN, TINA ARENA, BILL WYMAN, CHET ATKINS, JERRY REED, JOHN DENVER, HANK MARVIN, JAMES MORRISON, JOHN FARNHAM, ROBERTA FLACK and THE CHIEFTAINS.
