Who: Renee Geyer
Where: Western Suburbs Leagues Club
When: Sunday September 28, 2003

IN 2003, Australian soul legend RENEE GEYER has reached two milestones.

She has celebrated her 50th birthday and last week she released her 20th album Tenderland .

It has been 30 years since Australia was introduced to the soulful sound of Geyer, a woman who can reproduce classic soul numbers with her own distinct style.

Her interpretations include versions of It's a Man's, Man's World and Love Don't Live Here Anymore .

Tenderland has again seen Geyer add her own sound to a list of classic soul tunes and includes versions of tracks by the likes of OTIS REDDING, MARVIN GAYE, PRINCE, LULU, GLADYS KNIGHT and BOBBIE GENTRY.

But the album also allowed Geyer to try something new as she undertook the role as the album's producer.

``I was going for my take on these songs and no one knows that better than me, so it had to be done this way,'' Geyer said.

``I consider this an original album, not a covers album, because we were not trying to copy the originals at all.

``I think we have managed to pay homage to the original versions of these songs, but have thrown another slant on them as well.

'' The 11-track album also includes a reworking of Geyer's hit Heading in the Right Direction .

The album has also seen Geyer team up with Australian musicians including DADDY COOL 's ROSS HANNAFORD, VIKA AND LINDA BULL and STEVE HADLEY and BRUCE HAYMES from PAUL KELLY 's band.

To co-incide with the release of Tenderland , Geyer will perform songs from the album as well as old favourites at WEST LEAGUES CLUB on September 28.

The show follows Geyer's last sold out show at the club in 2002 and her support slot alongside RAY CHARLES at WYNDHAM ESTATE in February 2002.

Tickets are on sale from the club on 4935 th1200.
