AFTER spending the past year tucked away in the studio recording its second album, Sydney hip hop act GOOD BUDDHA is back.

The five-piece is putting the finishing touches on its latest album Future Histrix and hope to release the album by the end of September.

Drummer MATT JOHNSTON said the band haD progressed musically with the introduction of a new keyboard player, WITH ADAMOX, and new sampler CHRIS GADSBY .

Renowned for creating a fusion of hip hop, funk and soul, Good Buddha has gone from relying on the use of samples to producing its own.

``The main difference is that all of the songs come from our own music,'' Johnston said.

``We jammed and sampled our own riffs and created songs out of that which is probably more of what we would have liked the first album to be like.

'' Good Buddha was formed in 1996 around the basis of MC and guitarist AL YOUNG , MC and bassist ANDY LANE and Johnston.

Following the release of the band's debut album Skillathon in 2001, Good Buddha toured extensively and performed at festivals such as SPENDOUR IN THE GRASS and the WOODFORD FOLK FESTIVAL .

It has also supported the likes of GRANDMASTER FLASH and the RESIN DOGS , with whom Good Buddha recorded the new track The Take Off .

The band released its new EP Naturalogical earlier this month and will perform at the CAMBRIDGE HOTEL on August 29 with THE HERD .
