THE king of pop parody WEIRD AL YANKOVIC will embark on an Australian tour in October for the first time in his 25-year career.

The tour coincides with the release of his latest album Poodle Hat and he will perform at CIVIC THEATRE NEWCASTLE on October 18.

The live show features Weird Al and his band performing all of his hits and in many cases, simulating his music videos on stage with elaborate costume changes.

Poodle Hat parodies hits of EMINEM, NELLY, AVRIL LAVIGNE and BACKSTREET BOYS as well as a polka medley and original tunes that include homages to BOB DYLAN and FRANK ZAPPA.

Weird Al rose to fame in the early 80s for his parodies of artists such as NIRVANA, MICHAEL JACKSON and MADONNA.

Al is well know for his hilarious film clips, his hits include Smells Like Nirvana, Eat It, Fat, Amish Paradise, Pretty Fly For a Rabbi and Like a Surgeon.

``I'm just thrilled that I'm able to do exactly what I want to do for a living,'' Weird Al said.

``It never ceases to amaze me that I get to be `Weird Al' full time.
