Orbison

Who: Dean Bourne
Where: Belmont 16ft Sailing Club
When: Tuesday April 8, 2003

On December 6, it will be 15 years since the death of classic crooner Roy Orbison.

But the music of the ``Big O'' lives on in the acclaimed stage show Orbison: The Tribute starring Australian entertainer Dean Bourne.

Bourne began his musical career at the age of 10 and found himself performing as a soloist at clubs and pubs by the age of 15.

His big break came in 1988 when he entered the Follow That Dream talent quest, a contest open to look-alike and sound- alike hopefuls.

But it was Bourne's uncanny portrayal of Orbison which won over both the audience and judges alike that made him the undoubted winner.

The result also allowed for the creation of Orbison: The Tribute, a show which has travelled nationwide and played at some of the biggest clubs in Australia.

Locals will have the chance to see the show when Bourne performs at Belmont 16ft Sailing Club today.

As well as sharing a striking resemblance to the star, Bourne also shares Orbison's unforgettable falsetto vocal style.

His talent allows him to successfully reproduce legendary tracks including Pretty Woman, Only The Lonely, You Got It, Crying and In Dreams.

Bourne will perform at the Belmont 16ft Sailing Club's Lakeview Lounge from 11am today.

Entry is free.
