Locals' Chance to Show Writing Style

Who: Keith Armitage, Mitchell Shadlow, James Blundell, Pru Clearwater
What: Songwriters Unplugged
Where: CBD
When: Wednesday April 3, 2002

DUE to its success at Manly's Ivanhoe Hotel, Songwriters Unplugged will come to Newcastle once a week to give budding songwriters the chance to showcase their work.

Organised by songwriter Keith Armitage, the event has been running for more than a year in Manly.

Its success and popularity has seen artists waiting up to six weeks to score a place on the bill.

The showcase has seen numerous artists pass through including Pat Drummond and Women In Docs. The Newcastle instalment of the show will be held each Wednesday at Hotel CBD between 9pm and midnight.

It will officially kick off next Wednesday and feature performances from Mitchell Shadlow, James Blundell, Pru Clearwater and Armitage.

Armitage hopes the show will allow songwriters from both Newcastle and Sydney to merge and showcase their works in each city.

'I plan to use the night for artists from both cities to be able to interplay and expose their music to new audiences,' Armitage said.

Armitage himself is an award-winning songwriter and he said the show provides a relaxed vibe and is performed as an acoustic set up.

If you are an original artist who would like to be part of the inaugural Songwriters Unplugged show at Hotel CBD, contact Armitage on 02 0402-2332 or at keith@keitharmitage.com.
