BRIEN McVernon is without a doubt one of the Hunter's biggest success stories.

Having enjoyed national success with the acclaimed Koo De Tah, McVernon's talents have been showcased in a variety of Newcastle bands.

Well known for his work as a guitarist in The Funbusters, McVernon has tackled many different musical styles in bands including The Glam Gods. His work in the popular band Raiding Party was notable and saw McVernon write a top-10 hit for the group titled Loveland. Now McVernon is considered one of the hottest solo artists on the local scene and has been working on an album with plenty of original material to work with.

But his music is not restricted to one style.

Through much experimentation, McVernon has incorporated several styles to his sound including swing, rockabilly, mambo and jump blues.

It is through his love for music that McVernon is able to move between genres, crossing over from pop to country.

His talent has seen him share the bill with many big name Australian acts including Graeme Connors, Tanya Kernaghan, Col Elliot, Slim Dusty and Angry Anderson. As well as performing original music, McVernon has a long list of covers he performs.

His repertoire includes everything from The Beatles, Jimmy Barnes, Oasis, John Mellancamp, Roy Orbison and even Boyz II Men. Catch McVernon this week when he performs at Maitland City Bowling Club on Friday night.
