LUKE fans will be saddened by the news that the band will perform its final show at SJ's Hotel tomorrow night.

The band, which released its debut album Godspeed late last year, has become one of the most popular original outfits in Newcastle.

But the decision to split comes as frontman Corey Sleap relocates to Adelaide to begin work on a new music project.

Sleap will work on the new album titled The Television Eye while bassist Dave Rutter and drummer Joel Dumcombe will remain in Newcastle to pursue other activities.

In their time together, Luke has supported the likes of The Screaming Jets, Ed Kuepper, Machine Gun Fellatio, Nitocris and Motorace. Following his final gig at SJ's, Sleap will perform a solo show at the Northern Star Hotel on Friday night.

Luke is urging punters not to approach the last gig as a sombre farewell but as a celebration of their music for those who have supported them.

Local soloist Trent Grenell will also perform with Luke tomorrow night.
