Long Live Liz, The Doyenne of Disco

Who: Boney M
Where: Western Suburbs Leagues Club
When: Thursday September 5, 2002

FOR those who thought disco was dead, think again.

Cult disco band BONEY M is still going as strong as ever and will return to Australia next month to perform its first show in Newcastle.

Boney M was one of the pioneering bands of the disco era, and throughout the 70s and 80 the band produced many memorable hits such as RIVERS OF BABYLON and DADDY COOL. As well as being remembered for its catchy disco classics, Boney M is remembered for the stunning vocals of lead vocalist LIZ MITCHELL. Mitchell has kept the Boney M dream alive almost 30 years after it began with constant touring around the globe.

Founded in Germany by writer and producer FRANK FARIAN, Boney M was the start of a new era of disco which incorporated the glittering disco beats and Mitchell's Jamaican vocals.

Boney M's latest tour of Australia will include all of the band's memorable tracks.

'It is kind of a greatest-hits show. The program is based on the hits and my contribution as lead singer of Boney M over the years,' Mitchell said.

Mitchell, who is joined on stage by two backing vocalists and a dancer, assures fans that the show is better than ever.

The tour is guaranteed to attract fans of all ages, with the music of Boney M becoming increasingly popular with a new generation of younger fans.

'We have a great following of the younger audience here in Europe, in fact, it's amazing,' Mitchell said.

The timeless sound of Boney M is simply something that cannot be denied.

'I think that the spirit that lives in the music is very strong. People feel that and they say they get goosebumps and they feel glad when they hear the music,' Mitchell said.

'People remember how glad they were when they first heard the music and it's little things like that that tell you that the energy of the music was just perfect.'

Boney M will perform one show in Newcastle when it performs at WESTS LEAGUES CLUB on September 5.

Tickets are available from the club on 4935-1200.
