Fans In For Skanking Good Time at City's Skunkfest

What: Skunkfest 2002
Where: The Cambridge Hotel
Author: Jade Lazerevic
When: Friday May 3, 2002

MANY festivals have been held in Newcastle but one dedicated to ska music is yet to take place.

That will change next week when the organiser behind the successful Ska Trek series hosts the Newcastle's first ska and punk festival Skunkfest 2002. Offering over five hours of skanking entertainment from leading Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle bands, the festival will be held at The Cambridge Hotel next Friday from 8pm.

Taking place over two stages, the show will be headlined by Melbourne's Commissioner Gordon who formed in 1998.

The six piece offers a unique style of ska incorporating elements of swing and punk which is evident on their debut album Get In The Car which was released last year.

A major bonus for the band came in December when it was named the winners of the Get Baked competition.

As the winners of the prize, the band performed on the main stage at Homebake to film a scene for the film Garage Days. Also at Skunkfest is Sydney's Unpaid Debt and locals The Pornskars, Skazoo, Rubix Cuba, Operation Lager, Deny and The Lamingtons. DJs Clashrocker, Pucko and Devo will add to the line up as well as an offal eating competition, skanking competition and comedians.

Entry is $5.
