IF you recognise this face, it should come as no surprise.

Local singer and songwriter Brendan Murphy has been performing all over Newcastle in a variety of venues for the past four years.

Since he first picked up the guitar at 16, Murphy has become one of Newcastle's favourite musicians.

A popular solo artist, Murphy has also worked in a number of groups, notably The Schemers and The Dreamcatchers. Murphy has a number of engagements, including Hotel Metro on Saturday, Duke of Wellington on May 3 and MJ Finnegans on May 6.

Renowned for his versatility, Murphy performs electric and acoustic guitar.

His wide repertoire covers a variety of songs, covering anything from Bob Dylan to Red Hot Chilli Peppers to Chris Isaak. To complement his musicianship, Murphy has also studied singing at Newcastle Conservatorium of Music for the past few years.

But it's not just a long list of covers that Murphy performs, he has also established himself as a talented songwriter.
