The Porkers Play Shows to Appease Pork Lovers

Who: The Porkers, The Louisville Sluggers
Where: Northern Star Hotel
Author: Jade Lazerevic
When: Friday September 14, 2001

NOVOCASTRIAN ska kings The Porkers will show their love for the Newcastle crowd this weekend when they treat local fans to two special gigs at the Northern Star Hotel. On Friday night The Porkers will be joined by Sydney hipsters The Louisville Sluggers in an all swinging extravaganza.

Saturday's show will see Sydney based ska punks The Mad Dash join The Porkers.

'This is a special sort of show for Newcastle,' Porkers leader Pete Cooper said.

'We haven't played a pub gig in Newcastle for about two years, we've only played at the Uni, or the Workers Club for big shows and at The Foreshore with the Screaming Jets.

'So we are going to do a nice cozy pub gig at the Northern Star'.

Pete said the group will play a mix of old and new material and they hope to attract a few hundred people to the gigs.

'We will play two different sets each night so big fans will want to make it to both gigs.'

Pete said the group has a number of shows coming up, including one at Melbourne next weekend, but it is not embarking on a full tour.

The Porkers have been asked to play at Sydney's Hootenanny Festival in early November alongside US swingers Royal Crown Revue and The Cruel Sea. 'The promoter rang and said It's all about fun so we need The Porkers", so we'll give it a go.'

Entry to the Northern Star gigs is $12 and doors open at 8.30pm with the first band on stage about 10pm.

The Porkers latest album Time Will Tell is in stores now.
