LOCAL guitar wizard Bruce Mathiske will mark the end of a phenomenal year with an end-of-year performance at The Dungeon on Thursday.

Mathiske has had one of the greatest years of his career after the release of a critically acclaimed album and a successful US performance.

On The Edge is Mathiske's fourth album and was released in March this year.

The album has made it to number three on the Australian Independent Roots charts and captures his Australian sound enhanced with Mediterranean and Irish sounds.

'On The Edge is undoubtedly my best,' Bruce Mathiske said.

'I think there is a definite progression, an arrival if you like of my own style.'

Mathiske's unique style, which incorporates playing bass, rhythm and melody simultaneously, saw him receive an invitation to perform at the Chet Atkins tribute show in Nashville.

'My CD reviews are great and I am getting invited to all these wonderful overseas events.

'But best of all, both the Australian public and music industry are really paying attention and it's great to be this busy on home soil.'

Mathiske's last performance in Newcastle was to a 500-strong crowd at Christ Church Cathedral in an unplugged show.

Mathiske will be on stage from 7.30pm and bookings can be made by calling 4947-7443.
