Maynard Sure to Shake and Stir the Lass

Who: Maynard
Where: Lass O' Gowrie
Author: Michael Gadd
When: Saturday May 26, 2001

EVERYONE'S favourite retro champion Maynard will do his DJ thing at the Lass O'Gowrie Hotel on Saturday night.

He promises patrons he will make the place swing.

Maynard told TE he was toying with names such as Mondo Newcastle, Swingin' Like A Gate and The Big Cheese, but they finally settled on Shakin' and Stirred. Pucko was due to join him but had to cancel at the last moment.

The night will feature swing, big band and lounge music from the 50s to the 90s played the Maynard way; fast and furious.

Maynard said the rat pack of Wickham should come along to listen to such smooth rumba-shaking classics as Frank Sinatra's Fly Me To The Moon, Sammy Davis Jr's The Candy Man, David Lee Roth's Just A Gigolo or the Propellerheads' History Repeating. He will also play the Tom Jones version of Venus, an experience in itself.

'The night will finish with either Can't Smile Without You or New York, New York.' This will be voted for by the audience with a show of hands and Maynard said no correspondence will be entered into.

'Table dancing is encouraged and attitude is discouraged,' the former Hamilton boy said.

The night runs from 8pm to midnight and Maynard said to be early, because it's free.

'Only till midnight so you can only burn your candle at one end,' he said.

Maynard said the event could become a regular one.
