Who: Something For Kate
Where: Fanny's
When: Wednesday May 9, 2001

MELBOURNE rock outfit Something For Kate are outspoken about their enthusiasm for Newcastle.

In a recent interview with TE, bass player Stephanie Ashworth didn't hold back her thoughts on Novocastrian crowds.

'I was talking about it with Paul (Dempsey) the other day and Newcastle is definitely one of our favourite places to play,' Ashworth said.

'For some reason there are always big crowds and we get heaps of letters and e-mails from you guys.'

'The crowd is always really vocal about what they want to hear.

'But not to the point of being rude. I love playing there.'

Something For Kate will play at Fanny's next Wednesday, May 9 on their Monsters tour.

The band recently completed recording a brand new album Echolalia at former INXS bass player Garry Beer's Central Coast Mangrove Studios. 'The production of this album is much bigger and lusher,' she said.

SFK have followed a natural progression since their last release, Beautiful Sharks, about two years ago.

In the production phase they used whatever instruments they deemed necessary, vowing to consider how they would play it live later.

Dempsey, the group's lead singer, guitarist and predominant songwriter took the album as an opportunity to show-off his musical versatility.

Ashworth said that on the album he played keyboards, various types of harp, viola, violin and lead guitar.

All of this for a guy who is actually a drummer and took up the guitar to make songwriting easier.
