PHIL Manning, who is playing at Newcastle University on Tuesday has a list of credits over a career spanning three decades which is simply impressive.

One of Australia's best known guitarists, some would remember him as a member of influential blues group, Chain. But since the mid seventies, he has forged a brilliant solo career for himself.

He has featured at all the major festivals and venues throughout Australia and the list of top artists he has toured with, performed alongside or recorded with is long.

Manning's latest album Take Note, displays his versality in using a range of acoustic guitars in both slide and finger picking styles covering a full range of acoustic blues.

FUNKY TECHNO: NEWCASTLE electronic band, Detuner have released a follow-up to their debut EP The Funkmaster EP over the internet at www.mp3.com/detuner. Their latest release, The Willow EP is an another installment of the bands 'funky experimental techno'. The Willow EP has a different and much better quality sound to the previous release.

Detuner are expected to be included on a local Newcastle electronic compilation CD put out by Breve Electronica and available at Soundworld, Patsan's Dance Music Specialists and MP3.com.

HOUSE NIGHT: UNITED Kingdom and international DJ, Parker will provide a huge night of house music as part of his Back2Mind tour at The Cambridge Hotel on Saturday night.

Parker is renowned as one of the best DJs in the world.

He performs in the hottest clubs, has had residencies on Ibiza and as the tour DJ for M-People.

KUEPPER VISIT: HE recently headlined the Woodford Folk Festival and his press release says the Sultan of Brunei is close to confirming him as the entertainment at his annual paragliding regatta.

But on March 15, perennial blues genius Ed Kuepper will play in the Thursday night Cool Room slot at Hotel CBD. See next week's TE for more on Ed Kuepper.
