After completing the Touring for Uncle John East Coast tour of Australia, Newcastle metal group Chinchen will celebrate the official launch of its debut album Relax at The Castle on Saturday night.

Fronted by the Porkers' Ben Holland, the group has received rave reviews about its album from critics across Australia.

Last month's review in Drum Media said Chinchen was the 'best local slab' that they had 'heard in ages'.

The group will tackle the international market later in the year when it travels to Japan in October.

The group got together in 1997 and is made up of Ben Holland, Grant Pilon and Robert Parks Jr.

That year the threesome won the Newcastle University band competition and went on to perform with the Meanies, Screaming Jets, Suicidal Tendencies, The Living End and Bodyjar. The group's first release came with an EP titled Kick Block Punch, an underground classic which has become highly sought.

Chinchen will be joined by Quaan and Draw the Line on Saturday.
