Young Talent Time Nearing SJ's Finale

What: SJ's Grand Slam
Where: SJ's on Beaumont
When: Thursday July 12, 2001

NEWCASTLE'S hottest talents have been rocking SJ's Hotel for the past 13 weeks in an attempt to get through to the Grand Slam of the hotel's band competition.

Next Thursday, July 19, will see four successful bands battle it out to win thousands of dollars in cash and prizes.

Scar'Child, Twin Psyche and 2 Ton Monk are three of the four bands who will compete in next Thursday's final.

Scar'Child have been together for over two years and competed in the band competition final at the Albion Hotel. The group's guitarist Sean Brown said the band are confident about the final.

'We've been practicing a fair bit and you can only get better than what you already are,' Brown said.

All-girl group Twin Pysche are preparing for the grand final of the Newcastle University band competition and are also confident about next Thursday's gig.

'We made the final last year and we are hoping to win this year,' bass player Rachel said.

Fresh from winning the Mayfield Hotel band competition is 2 Ton Monk, who won took out the honour in May.

The forth finalist will be decided during the competition at SJ's tomorrow night.
