Shoot Out hits Club Nova Auditorium

What: The Shoot Out
Where: Newcastle Panthers
When: Sunday July 15, 2001

HUNDREDS of people gathered to Club Nova Newcastle last year to catch the zany films from budding filmmakers in the Newcastle Shoot Out Film Festival. And you can expect another big crowd this year when Newcastle Club Nova holds a free public screening of the festival's best films on Sunday evening.

The festival allowed 250 entries this year from filmmakers of all ages, each with a different agenda for their work.

Among several celebrity filmmakers will be Home and Away star Ben Steel who will shoot a film with help from the Home and Away production crew.

Last year the competition saw more than 180 teams enter the competition and this year winners have the chance to win more than $10,000 in prizes.

The major prize winner will be awarded with an industry package worth over $10,000.

Category prizes of $500 include best direction, cinematography, art direction, script, sound, sound design, music composition, acting in a lead role and best under-18 film.

Organisers have announced a new competition to be held in conjunction with the festival.

The Shooting Star Competition offers wannabe actors an opportunity to win a screen test with the Mullinars Casting Consultants. For a chance to win the prize, actors must appear in as many films in the festival as possible. Films will be screened at the club from 7pm and shown in the clubs auditorium.

Continuous screenings of the other films will be held at the club next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
