The Best of Blues Rock

Who: Mal Eastick
Where: Northern Star Hotel
When: Thursday October 5, 2000

BLUES ROCK: ONE of Australia's finest blues rock guitarist MAL EASTICK, will perform at the Northern Star Hotel tomorrow night. Eastick's passionate, explosive and soulful style has been featured with some of Australia's biggest recordings and performing acts for more than 20 years.

PUNK IT UP: PUNKS of a certain vintage will come bounding out of the woodwork for this Saturday night's gig at the Lass O'Gowrie. RAD BELIGION, a BAD RELIGION tribute, features members of SICK STITCHER, CONATION, WEISHEIMER and DISENGAGE. Also on the bill is the JASON DONOVAN ENEMA EXPLOSION, featuring members of ONE MINUTE MILE, SANDPAPER, CONATION and BIG MEN FLY, playing covers of MINOR THREAT, DEAD KENNEDYS, ANGRY SAMOANS and CIRCLE JERKS. Finally HIGH TOWER, billed as sonic mayhem. Look out!

FUN GUYS: YOU'VE seen them playing in bands such as THE SLOTS, MEN WITHOUT SHAME, DUST PUPPET and ZEBRA CONNECTION. So you'll already know that cover band BENDER, playing this Friday night at the Lemon Grove Hotel, is a fun-time, rock'n'roll party group. But we bet you didn't know that bass player JAS 'likes to eat light globes and razor blades'. Or that drummer NICK 'enjoys shadowboxing and breeding turtles'? What about guitarist CHRIS who 'is into tattoos and body piercings, but has neither', or guitarist and singer NAT who 'designs toothbrushes in his spare time'. Fun times indeed!

FLOYD FUN: WITH their infectious Latin pop grooves, FLOYD VINCENT & THE CHILDBRIDES are considered one of the best party bands in Australia. The group's 'psychedelic mariachi rock' can be found in Newcastle this Friday night at the Northern Star Hotel.

ROCK CHICKS: EXCELLENT all-female rock'n'roll band SKULKER will return to the University of Newcastle with POWDERFINGER on Tuesday October 17.

SWING OUT: TOMORROW night THE DUNGEON, at Adamstown Uniting Church, features SAX BLUE and the WELL SWUNG swing band, from 7.30 pm. The Dungeon is situated underneath the Adamstown Uniting Church, at the corner of Glebe and Brunker Rds, Adamstown.

COOL TRIO: THE CUE STICK trio will perform on Friday, October 6, Bayside Tavern, and Friday, October 13, at the Nag's Head Hotel. The trio includes old surfing buddies PETER CORNISH and GRAHAM MEEHAN on drums and guitar respectively, and bass player LUKE SCOTT . The lads play a swag of cool stuff.
