A Feast of Hunter Country

Who: Kate Ballantyne
Where: Western Suburbs Leagues Club
When: Wednesday May 17, 2000

NEWCASTLE'S own country music bloomer, KATE BALLANTYNE, will headline and MC a 'country music feast' tonight at Western Suburbs Leagues Club.

The free two-hour show from 7.30pm will also feature Hunter-based country performers MITCHELL SHADLOW and ALBY POOLE. Shadlow, who hails from Singleton and now lives in Merewether, has released an album called ONE OF THESE DAYS on the ABC COUNTRY label through EMI. Poole, originally from Western Australia, has called the Hunter home for the past few years. He has released two independent albums, is a festival stalwart and tours Queensland regularly.

Ballantyne, who released a CD FLOWERS OF LOVE in October at the Mildura Country Music Festival, is about to record a duet with TOYOTA COUNTRY STARMAKER 2000 winner GRANT RICHARDSON. The song, WHEN I'M HOLDING YOU, was written by well-known country songwriter SAM HAWKESLY and will appear on an upcoming ABC COUNTRY compilation album, OPEN ROAD. Ballantyne, Poole and Shadlow will be backed by a band that features two former members of the JOHN WILLIAMSON band, bass player GILES SMITH and guitarist KELVIN NOLAN, as well as BUSHWACKERS drummer JUSTIN DUGGAN.
