Bellhops to Cook up Some Fun

Who: The Bellhops
Where: Northern Star Hotel
When: Friday July 28, 2000

IN these daysof pared down trios, duos and soloists, it's refreshing to hear of groups with enough members to form their own basket ball team if they chose.

THE BELLHOPS, playing on Friday night at the Northern Star Hotel and Saturday night at the Belmont Sportsmans Club, are one such group.

Everything you will hear is real, covering five decades of popular music, backed by a three-piece horn section of BILL TSEPELIS (trumpet), STEVE O'CONNELL (saxophone) and BRUCE ALLEN (saxophone).

Other members are STEVE TREW (lead vocals and harmonica), IAN DITMAN lead vocals and guitar, JOHN RUSSELL (lead and slide guitar), MARK ROULSTON (bass and vocals) and STEVE LOVARNI (drums).

From the swing and jive era of the late 1940s, with numbers by LOUIS JORDAN and BIG JOE TURNER, to 1950s rock'n'roll and CHUCK BERRY, BILL HALEY and JERRY LEE LEWIS, The Bellhops know how to cook up some fun.

The group also takes on the 1960s soul sounds of RAY CHARLES, WILSON PICKET and JAMES BROWN, continuing on through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s with THE BLUES BROTHERS, THE COMMITMENTS and JOE COCKER. TE
