Different Beat Dance Dramas

What: Fighting The Silence
Where: Newcastle Performing Arts Building
When: Wednesday July 19, 2000

NEWCASTLE-born choreographer TARA BOLLARD, will break the mould of contemporary dance in Newcastle this week by adding a dash of comedy, drama and spoken word.

Bollard, 23, has flown three Perth-based dancers thousands of kilometres across Australia for four performances of her original work FIGHTING THE SILENCE. The production was commissioned by Newcastle's HANDS ON DANCE THEATRE and will to be performed at the Performing Arts Newcastle Building, Auckland St, Newcastle.

There will be daily performances at 8pm until Saturday, July 22, and a final performance on Sunday, July 23, at 6.30pm.

Four graduates of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, including a former Novocastrian PAEA LEACH, 21, will perform in the production.

Leach said Fighting The Silence was unlike ballet because contemporary dance tended to have 'its own journey'. The performance also featured many lighter moments because contemporary dance tended to be 'bit serious'. TE
