Who: V8 Swine

WITH a name like V8 SWINE it's hard not to imagine the music that this group plays being pumped out of the boot of a fully worked V8 Torana SL/R.

Add to that mental picture an image of the vehicle taking it slow up and down Newcastle East's Shortland Esplanade, with five heads bobbing in time to the beat, and you've got the look.

If that's an image that splits a grin across your face, then this Friday night at the Jolly Roger is the place to inhale the fumes to complete the fantasy.

This band features former HOUND frontman JARROD 'JD' DAUNT on lead vocals, and DAVE 'SCOTTISH' FORBES on guitar, STEVE ALCHIN on drums, MATTY ROCKO on lead guitar and DAVE READ on bass.

It's the group's first public gig but members have been in and out of enough V8-powered rock bands in their time to know the difference between a dropped tank and a roll cage.

Expect to hear plenty of THE CULT, LED ZEPPELIN, ROSE TATTOO, TONIC, BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE, THIN LIZZY, ZZ TOP, AC/DC, ROLLING STONES and KISS. But it's not all hard rock. For those quieter moments parked up at Bar Beach car park with someone special, there's some PEARL JAM, CHRIS ISAAK, THE BEATLES and DAVID BOWIE.
