NEWCASTLE Starmaker winner KATE BALLANTYNE has been nominated for two awards in the INDEPENDENT COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS OF AUSTRALIA to be held in Mildura in October.

Ballantyne has been nominated for best independent album of the year for FLOWERS FOR LOVE released in October 1999.

She was also nominated for independent heritage track of the year, for the ANDREW DURANT tune LAST OF THE RIVERBOATS, included on Flowers For Love.

Ballantyne will be flown to Mildura in October to attend the awards festival, considered to be the equivalent of the GOLDEN GUITAR awards for independent country music artists.

Ballantyne and two more Starmaker award winners will perform at Wests tonight.

The 1997 Starmaker winner LYN BOWTELL and 2000 Starmaker winner GRANT RICHARDSON will each perform.

On September 6 Lismore's STEPHANIE GRANT, a grand finalist of the CHANNEL NINE televised talent quest STAR STRUCK, will perform at Western Suburbs Leagues Club, joined by BECCY COLE. On September 13, Ballantyne will host 'a picker's night' featuring Australia's finest guitar pickers, including STUART FRENCH, MICHEL ROSE, KELVIN NOLAN and STEVE COWLEY. Feral Swing Katz will be at Wests on September 20. TE
