Vitalbeats for Dancing Feet

What: Vitalbeats
Where: The Cambridge Hotel
Author: Anne-Marie Wilcock
When: Saturday August 26, 2000

PROMINENT Sydney DJ MAL RUSSELL is a self-professed music snob.

His musical influences started early with his father's involvement in jazz and developed in the 80s when he started playing contemporary music or James Brown at friends' parties.

From there he fell into house music and began playing sets in English clubs and promoting dance parties.

Russell will headline this Saturday night's VITALBEATS dance party at the Cambridge Hotel, alongside deejays PATSAN, NEOTOKE and CHRIS CALM in the main room.

DJs in the beer garden include T-TIME, DICA, FRAGLE, MATH MATICS, PHAT ALI and THROB GOBLIN in the courtyard.

In late 1989, a three-week holiday to Sydney convinced Mal he was never meant to leave Australia.

He became heavily involved in the then small Sydney dance scene, organising underground raves and dance parties, and founding the now-legendary Sunday night clubnight, Bounce.

Helping produce one of 1994's biggest events, the Splash party, only cemented Mal's reputation as one of the kings of the dance scene.

The same team knocked together Delicious and High Times, which ended up running for almost five years.

TE has three double passes to VITALBEATS to give away.
