The Beat of Africa

Who: Ngogo Hi Life
Where: Northern Star Hotel
When: Sunday March 7, 1999

THE first ever non-jazz Sunday night at the Northern Star Hotel is going to be a biggie with West African AFRO 'MOSES' O'JAH and his nine-piece band NGOGO HI LIFE threatening to close down half of Beaumont St this weekend.

With this much energy radiating from the snug surrounds of the Northern Star, Sunday drivers had better be looking out for dancing in the streets after the band begins at 6pm.

Some of the band's stars are TRICKY keyboard player ABRAHAM ARTHUR, female vocalist and dancer GIFTY KUUKA AYIREBI AQUAH and percussionist EPIZO BANGOURA, who played last Friday night at the Northern Star.

And these are just the musicians we have enough room to fit onto the page.

MOSES O'JAH, who plays a talking drum, fuses together several styles of high-energy African music.

TE has a copy of the album YELE YELE to give away. To go in the draw send an envelope, with your name, address and telephone number on the back, to AFRO MOSES GIVEAWAY, PO Box 2300, Newcastle, 2300. Or enter online at www.nnp.com.au TE
