Clubland Time Travels

Who: Tantrum Theatre
Where: Gallipoli Legion Club
When: Thursday December 16, 1999

IF you haven't experienced THE EMERALD ROOM, upstairs at the Gallipoli Legion Club in Beaumont St, Hamilton, then you haven't seen a form of entertainment that has been stuck in a time warp since 1979.

Thanks to the TANTRUM THEATRE, audiences this week will be transported to the location of the subject of its latest production.

Tomorrow night, Friday night and Sunday night, it's where you'll find KARAOKE - YOU CAN'T STOP THE MUSICAL, a show famous for its cheesy blend of live cabaret.

The name is fictional but the ambience of the Gallipoli Legion Club is real.

It's also perfect for the play. And the drinks are at club prices!

The story centres on The Emerald Room 'where every night is New Year's Eve'.

The Emerald Room has fallen on tough times though, a victim of 'economic rationalism' and a mode of entertainment that has been deemed 'unfashionable'.

In fact nothing has been quite the same since the disappearance 20 years ago of The Emerald Room's famed operator and singing sensation BOBBY BOOMERANG. The show starts at 7pm 'for cocktails and live music' from the SWINGING SOMETHING-OR-OTHERS featuring SUE MORLEY, STEVE 'MAC' MACLENNAN, ANDY 'SHEEPDIP' COSTIGAN, MARK REEDMAN, GENEVIEVE MURRAY, BRYAN MULLARD and PUCKO. A 13-member cast is directed by AMANDA ROFF, with choreography by 'Tantrum Bartuccio' and design by MARION GILES. The show continues next week from Thursday, December 16, until Saturday, December 18.
