Johnson Sets Sail

What: Johnson and Friends - The Big Surprise
Where: Belmont 16ft Sailing Club
When: Wednesday September 23, 1998

THE ultimate holiday boredom buster bounces into Belmont 16ft Sailing Club next week in the form of a courageous pink elephant and his toy friends.

Two performances of JOHNSON AND FRIENDS - THE BIG SURPRISE , a new live theatrical show based on the ABC TV series, are scheduled at the club on September 23.

JOHNSON is joined by his toy-box friends MCDUFF the artistic concertina, ALFRED the impetuous hot water bottle, DIESEL the noisy dump truck plus SQUEAKY the shy robot.

Full of songs from the JOHNSON AND FRIENDS ALBUM released by ABC, and special effects, the performers interact with their audience.

Set in the bedroom of Michael, the characters' owner, the audience are regarded by the toys as visitors in the bedroom and invited to join in their imaginative and fun adventure.

Revered by tiny tots in 60 countries around the world, the cuddly characters are successful for several reasons, according to producer of this live show VIRGINIA DEWEZ.

'The secret of Johnson's success, I believe, is the magic and quality,' Dewez said.

'Quality writing, production and presentation,' she said.

'The depth of characters is excellent and the stories are creatively written adventures which appeal to the imagination.

'When Johnson appears onstage the ''oohs and ahhs'' from the audience are breathtaking. . .they are seeing the actual TV costume characters.'

The production uses the television writer, director and set designer to maintain the much-loved TV show's quality and integrity, Dewez said.

Next week's show is presented as a fundraising event for the Possum Place Child Care Centre.

Tickets are $7.50 per adult or child over 12 months. Bookings are on (02) 4945-0888.
