Vandal's Steal Thunder

Who: Nancy Vandal

JOHN COUGAR could never have imagined his 1980s jingoistic anthem, ROCK IN THE USA, would ever be subjected to the kind of treatment it has been given on NANCY VANDAL'S latest five-track CD.

The Sydney band with a strong Novocastrian connection has just been named in the lineup for HOMEBAKE 98 at the Domain on December 5.

It also has a new CD out called CLEAN OUT YOUR DESK LONELINESS ... YOU'RE FIRED. Tracks four and five were recorded for Triple J's LIVE AT THE WIRELESS. Track four is the cataclysmic fun of BIKINI HIGH SCHOOL MASSACRE 3 and track five is called WHEN I SQUEEZE MY NOSE I SOUND LIKE AXL ROSE. Other tracks include the hysterically funny title track, a driven version of the Cougar classic, with horn section before the sprinting chorus, and a rockabilly flavoured song HEAVEN'S ON FIRE. Also named for Homebake are SPIDERBAIT, GRINSPOON, THE WHITLAMS, THE MAVISIS CUSTARD, THE AVALANCHES, FRENZAL RHOMB, SOMETHING FOR KATE, NOT FROM THERE and TOE TO TOE. Late inclusions are THE LIVING END, AMMONIA, JEBEDIAH, SCREAMFEEDER, TISM, FINISCAD, THE FEELERS, BODYJAR, EVEN and THE RESIN DOGS. Tickets are on sale through Ticketek.
